motorcycle lift stand

Post by Bob Monahan » Sat Mar 22, 2008 6:54 am

Does anyone here have suggestions for a motorcycle lift stand for a tired old codger that's too old and fat to bend over while he works on his bike? My KLR is dirty from my last two rides and I need to do a thorough cleaning on it and am dreading all the bending over. I found this on ebay and wonder if it's the type stand that is best for a KLR? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORCYCLE-MOTOCROSS-SCISSOR-LIFT-STAND-C\ RF-YZ-CR-RM-KX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ011QQitemZ3202305169\ 36QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORCYCLE-MOTOCROSS-SCISSOR-LIFT-STAND-\ CRF-YZ-CR-RM-KX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ011QQitemZ320230516\ 936QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW> $bob$ [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

For less money I would go with the lift from Sears or Harbor Freight. They both have wheels which make it easy to move them around when you don't have the bike on them. On Sat, Mar 22, 2008 at 6:54 AM, Bob Monahan wrote:

I have one of the Sear's lifts and love it. It works great on my Connie, but I have never tried it on a KLR yet. If it goes high enough, which it probably does I would go with it. It is very stable, rolls around easily and just works great. ----- Original Message ---- From: Kevin Powers To: Bob Monahan Cc: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2008 8:17:08 AM Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Motorcycle Lift Stand For less money I would go with the lift from Sears or Harbor Freight. The nice thing about the ebay stand is that it lifts three feet. The bad thing about the ebay stand is that the maximum weight limit is too close to the dry weight of the KLR and with a full tank of gas all bets are off. Having my KLR three feet off the ground and over the weight limit would be a scary proposition. Alan A13 Iowa Kevin Powers wrote:

I bought one of these on sale at Sears and I'm pretty happy with it: Craftsman Motorcycle/ATV Jack Sears Item #00950190000 Mfr model #34162 $89.99, my local store had them in stock, or you can order online. Photos here: http://tinyurl.com/2wvjde Greg Jorgensen

I purchased the Sears cycle lift and have been using it for about a year and a half. Several of the group members have it, too. It has wheels that allow you to reposition the bike. It cost about $50 - $60 on sale and I'm very satisfied with it. The model you linked to on eBay looks good from the pictures. Greg, It appears that the one at Harbor Freight is suspiciously similar... I'll see if they have it at my local store so I don't have to pay shipping. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... umber=2792 http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1260 ... I bought the Harbor Freight one. It is pretty good for the price. I have had a 350 lb drag bike elevated on it for more than a year, zero problems. Pretty stable too.
