As I am only 5 foot 8 inches, I cannot get both feet firmly on the
ground when I am stopped on my 650. This bike is quite high!!!
Yesterday at the 20 mile mark on the odometer, I dropped it in the
driveway...... It is too heavy for me to pick up so I called my
neighbor and we got it back on it's feet. Hmmmm. I am glad a garter
snake bit me instead of the deadly rattlesnake! So much learning to do
to be safe.
I see lowering kits are available. I need to lower mine about 1 inch
and get some nice cycle boots with thick soles and heels.
How do these kits work, and where may I buy one. Thanks Andy in New
Orleans with a brand new 2008 KLR650 who he just loves to pieces.
Please tour my City with your 650. We are on the rebound and quite
nice to visit!

how to lower the klr650?
Andy:
I am new to KLR's and also lowered mine, 1.5 inches. The lowering kit
should contain both the lowering links and a shorter side stand. It is
quite easy and should take only an hour or so. Also, you may want to raise
the fork tubes about the same amount which lowers the front end as well.
Again, this is a simple operation and requires only one tool (the
appropriate sized socket wrench).
I am a New Orleans fan. I have been going there regularly for 30 years or
so. We will be visiting my wife's family in Morgan City over Easter and I
may find a launch window to go to the French Quarter on Saturday for Begnets
(sp) and Cafe Aulait (sp). And then I just hang around and listen to music
etc for the afternoon. I like the Quarter during the day. I'm too old for
the night time.
Regards,
Jeff

desmoparts screw kits for klr
I found stainless allen head screws at my local A-Boy Plumbing &
Hardware store. I removed the screws I wanted to replace, counted how
many of each size I needed, took one of each to the store, and bought
all new screws for just a few dollars.
I tried some black coated allen heads from Home Depot but they rusted
pretty fast. The stainless screws are much better.
