According to F1 Engineering, it *is* available to the general public: http://www.f1engineering.com/diesel%20bike%20specs.html

Where/who do you buy one from? I'd like to get just the motor, but have only seen the ads. Denis

My understanding is that this is the pricey limited production run. You can pre-order it as a commenmerative military clone or the civiy graphics. The PR is that after this run some 'major' OEM motorcyle maker is going to buy the rights to the design and offer it as a standard model. I'm hoping that this menas Kawasaki Heavy Industries is going to take the bike and turn it into a viable real world bike. By that, I mean offer a package capable of going at least as fast as the gas version on the super slab with updated suspension. Pat G'ville, NV

I sent an inquiry e-mail about engine-only kit availability and here is the boilerplate reply; note the dates - Pat M Pac_NW * * * * Thank you for your interest in the M1030M1 Diesel Combat Motorcycle and the civilian version D650A1 Diesel Dual-Sport Motorcycle. F1 Engineering designs, develops and manufactures prototype engines and engine components of all kinds for various industries, mainly US military, motorcycle and off-road and Formula One race cars. The project for HDT USA, the diesel engine for military and civilian use is now finished and in production, with most of the engine components being manufactured by our production facilities. As with all of our engines, a development program will continue on indefinitely. All information on the diesel engined motorcycles, plus a newsletter sign-up can be found on the HDT USA website www.m1030.com or www.dieselmotorcycles.com The HDT USA email address for more information is info@... The Diesel Engine / 5 speed transmission unit itself will be available for OEM and aftermarket special project use once deliveries start on the civilian bike, sometime around April or May of 2006. Current project for F1 Engineering is a compression ignition v-twin motorcycle and ATV engine of 1200cc, this is also a military engine for HDT USA but is expected to be offered to the general public by them when development is finished, sometime late in 2006. Again, thank you for you interest in the F1 Engineering projects. Roger G. Flynn F1 Engineering Inc.

Anybody catch the article in Jan 2008 of Motorcyclist about the KLR diesel made by Hays (HDT) in the USA? I don't know why they don't bring this bike out to the general public (for a reasonable price). Could it be military contracts are far more lucrative? Other than slow throttle response, there is plenty of torque and great milage ...... well it seems like the perfect cheap adventure bike. They also had an article about an electric bike and a hydrogen / electric powered bike by Suzuki. At least some are thinking in the right direction on energy. Criswell

I think this motorcycle is a "dead man walking" and will never be offered to the public. ED
