Ed - Life can continue without that cover and the cable behind it. I
removed the cable that goes behind this because the cable constantly
got plugged with sand. Basically a cable gets hooked-in behind that
cover and runs up the bike to the big, flat plastic cover
that "controls/senses" the kickstand position. Now, I accept the
risk associated with removing the kick-stand safety switch mech,
you'll have to decide that for yourself. But that black plastic
cover makes it look good and helps keep out debris. I still have the
black cover on but the cable h-a-s left the building. Check here to
get the p/n.
