Ricky,

Is this a noise that only happens below 3,000 rpm, say in low gear accelerating away from a dead stop? Some of your comments imply "yes" - but then others insinuate you hear it above that in upper gears.

If "yes", I have noticed that the counterbalancer system seems to have a torsional natural frequency in the mid 2000's that is quite audible when there is insufficient tension in the doohickey spring. Essentially the counterbalancer system is getting accelerated torsionally in little pulses from the loose chain, and it's not hard to hear it 'clanking around' torsionally as the power delivery from the crank from a big single is - by nature - heavily interrupted. Wow, scary long sentence there... but hopefully you can visualize what I'm driving at.

If you're already installed a torsion spring on the doo, or if you've just recently had the left cover off and know the extension spring is not broken and has reasonable preload, then I'm sending you in the wrong area. It must be something else. Otherwise, I'd be pulling the left cover with a plan of the Eagle Mike Doohickey and Torsion Spring addition.

My bike was pretty noisy in this fashion - and getting more preload in the system has made it totally quiet. A night and day change.

Going insane, my KLR has been making this sound since I bought it used
a few years ago, nobody has been able to fix it...when I
accelerate.. .after it has been warmed up ( i am quite sure of this )
it sounds like someone is shaking a ball bearing inside an empty
can...it drives me insane, and gets worse and worse as my driving time
extends...and starts happening in higher gears as i drive more.

I have to really let the clutch out slow and accelerate super slow in
 order to reduce it.

Any suggestions would be highly apreciated!! !

500mile service.
For those that have asked for more details. This was at Northern
 Kawasaki in
Cloquet Minnesota. I bought the bike new from them last October. Over
the past six months they have sent me two $10.00 off coupons good for
anything in the shop. I used one of these on this bill, and and asked
what chain lube they used in the shop.....he gave me a can and I wrote
them a check for $94, so the bill was actually $104. The other thing
that impressed me about this place. Last fall when I picked up the
bike, the mechanic came out an introduced himself to me. Maybe they did
something warranty wise with Kawasaki regarding the valve adjustment,
and the carb float because they were both incorrect from day one. I
didn't ask because I was so thrilled about the low bill after paying
$300+ for similar service work on my Harleys. They have not yet
 received any 08s BTW
