which bash plate is better?
I have a 1991 Tengai and during an engine rebuild the stock plastic
bash plate fell to pieces as the previouse owner had smashed it and
fiberglassed it back together, this patch job had rotted apart.
...so I need a new one, a friend of mine who used to race MX advised
me that the original plastic ones are better than aftermarket
aluminium because they can 'pop' back into shape and have give in them
whereas aluminium will just dent.
Can I please have your views.
P.S. I also have a klr650.com centrestand which is WAY too long, this
may get in the way of the new bash plate.

I always thought the idea behind the aluminum bash plates was that they did *not* collapse, unlike the plastic OEM ones, thus protecting the engine better. List wisdom has been that you need a metal bash plate if you're riding in rocky areas, but otherwise the stocker is pretty good. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> http://sobiloff.typepad.com/klr_adventure/> San Jose, CA (USA) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]> ...so I need a new one, a friend of mine who used to race MX advised > me that the original plastic ones are better than aftermarket > aluminium because they can 'pop' back into shape and have give in them > whereas aluminium will just dent.
