In my search for info regarding my "pain in the butt" post I would like to ask the group for input regarding the aftermarket seat options out there. I've called a number of the manufacturers today and gotten good info from Bill Mayer Saddles, Tim at Happy Trails was more than accomodating to my request for info and the folks at Russel Saddles spent some time answering questions as well. They all may be fine. The only one I know from experience and 100's of reviews, with not one detracter, is the RUSSEL. They cannot be beat. They are soft with support as appossed to most that are hard with support.

Thanks for the link. Howevewr, I have lost all confidence in that report, if he is saying the Corbin seat is in the same league as the Russell. No comparison whatsoever. If the Corbin is worth $240, the Russell is worth $1000, thats how much better it is. The Corbin is hard and no give, the Russell is soft with lots of spring give. My Corbin on my BUSA cuts the blood circulation off in my legs, I have to use an Airhawk on top of it. If anyone likes a Corbin, they won't believe how much they are missing until they try a Russell.

There is no way I would put that Russel on my KLR and try to ride off road. I need to be able to move around and the Russel looks like it woudl get in the way. I have a Russell on the BMW and like it there.

different strokes for sure. I don't want to move around on my seat without getting up some. You don't need to move around on the Russell. If hard offroad, I am always getting up off the seat to move around. I don't rely on the seat to allow me to do that. Again, I hope to test my theory next year, will definitely have a Russell and I ride about 80% off road,

Garrett, FWIW, after reading all the old seat posts from the last several years, I decided to try my hand at building my own custom seat. I bought the DS gel as a base to work from. The price is managable enough in case this project became a total failure. If nothing else, It was just more tuition fee for KLR University. The seat cover looks nice too. (black is better than Barbie purple). A great tip I got from this list - be sure the gel has plenty of foam over it so it doesn't get too hot. It's barely covered with poor foam from DS. My seat is a work in progress - much like the KLR in general. I also like the sheepskin cover from Alaska Leather for touring. It's expensive but never gets too hot or too cold and it fits well. My butt isn't as young as it used to be either. There was a time I'd just ride on a seat pan - back when I young, dumb, and full of c... 50lbs less bulk didn't hurt either. If you're riding in deep sand, the technique that works best for me is to slide way back on the seat to shift my weight to the rear tire for better traction and to allow the front tire to "float." That is one situation where it really does help to be able to slide back and keep your butt on the seat in order to change the weight bias rearwards. ed A17
