internal engine cleaner

Post by rideklr » Wed Feb 22, 2006 1:42 pm

Hey guys, I have recently adjusted my valves and I would like to clean around and under the camshafts. Is there a safe cleaner or solvent that I can use for the interior of the motor? also if a little dirt (i'm not sure if any did) went down the spark plug hole what would be the best way to remove it? Vacume, oil change after pouring oil over the piston through the spark plug hole. any advice would be nice. I didn't see any dirt fall down there but I tend to get a little nervous about what if.

People seem to measure "day" differently when they're talking about this. I did well over 1000 miles in 24 hours from Chicago to Wyoming a couple of summers ago, but I slept almost a full night in there, too, so it really felt like two "riding days". We left at 6PM, so the first day was quite short (until 11PM) and the second rather long. On the way home on that same trip I did over 1,000 miles in a single "riding day" (that is, I didn't sleep), from the Dakotas back to Chicago. I'd planned to stop near Mineapolis, since I was following U.S. 12 (I'd been on it all the way from Washington state) and it gets very suburban and frustrating past there, but I couldn't find anywhere nice to stop for dinner so I called my friends in Chicago from a gas stop and just kept riding, taking the superslab the rest of the way. Finishing out a very long day on the superslab can make the miles really seem to fly past and help you tack on a lot more than you expected to do that day. I have to go back some time and ride the one segment of US 12 I missed, from Missoula to where it rejoins the interstate somewhere further east. What a great road. Thor
