radiator hose pop!

How do u repair a carburetor base gasket (86 accord). I tried the dealer and online parts companies but they don't sell them anymore. Best thing to do is to replace the gasket but since I can't do that, I need to repair/plug the leak (air). I tried the salvage yards for used gasket but I couldn't find anything. Can anyone on this group recommend a sealant to repair the gasket? It's a temporary solution but I need suggestions/ideas. Thanks.

Gaska cinch. dont use RTV around your TB or Carb. dont reuse a cork or felt gasket out of a JY. if its a rubber based one its okay. i find it really odd that napa or kragens does not offer this. maybe your asking for something they are not understanding. try looking for a carb to manifold gasket. or if it is the carb that is leaking get a carb rebuild kit. solo11 wrote: How do u repair a carburetor base gasket (86 accord). Make your own gasket. Buy some gasket material from the autoparts place. Put a piece large enough to cover the base of the carb on the carb base and tap with a machinist/ball peen hammer around exteriour of the base and the throttle bores. It will leave an impression of the carb base which you can cut out. Felpro still makes the base gasket for your car, the part number is 60671 for the lower gasket and 60793 for the upper gasket. Partsamerica lists both upper and lower gaskets on-line, you can search by the Felpro part numbers. Buy some gasket material from an auto parts store and make your own gasket. Do not use any silicone gasket sealer, as is commonly used. Gasoline turns silicone to mush. Agreed on the sizes Jeff, It looks like a 20mm or 21mm hose actually. I bought 3/4" for my first project and it's a very tight fit. I thought the factory nipples would be .75" but they were more like .80". I would suggest either factory hoses or a molded hose (as suggested by another poster) as bulk hose doesn't bend very well for some of the turns and will kink. Don't ask me how I know that. Bill Watson Phoenix ----------- Sam, I couldn't get a good reading as the hoses are well placed on my bike. But it looks like it's probably 3/4" hose and will be a tight fit. I suppose it could be 7/8" hose but I think that would be a loose/sloppy fit. Also looks like you'd need about 3-4 feet of hose to get from the water pump to the cylinder base, the head to the radiator and the radiator to the water pump. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
