engine died on highway...just quit

Post by JERRY » Tue Jun 21, 2005 2:31 pm

I thought since getting a supertrapp 2 pipe, rejetting to .152, and modifying the airbox, that the reason my bike quit while flying down the freeway at 98mph for 15 minutes had something to do with fuel. I was right, and wrong. There are two fuel lines that connect to the fuel tank of my 2004 KLR 650, and the vibration caused the vacuum line to come off, interupting the fuel delivery. It wasn't easy to find at first, so I offer the information to the world. Yup, the high-vibration not only causes my nuts to go numb, but the vacuum line to fall off. So, if you find that zooming down the road makes the vacuum line come off, the main fuel line will not deliver fuel to the carb unless there is some suction to open the petcock...a nice safety feature actually, if you think about it. Any suggestions or recommendations on air filters?

Sounds like someone forgot to install the hose clamp on the petcock vacuum line.

To add to that thread: Appetite for Destruction by Guns N Roses Yeah I was 16 bwhen it came out and had alreay done my time with classic rock and been wowed by Dark Side of the Moon in headphones and thought Zeppelin were wild and Sabbath were evil, but when Appetite came out it kinda changed everything. It presented the rock bck band as a street gang. Probably one of the best debut albums ever and definitely a huge waste of potential. But for the 36-48 months that those dudes were at their peak, they made the Stones look like the monkees... -- Jake Szufnarowski
