idle mixture

Post by jasonsail » Tue Mar 01, 2005 10:24 am

I had problems with my 2001 engine stopping at stop signs and red light. I ordered an adjustable idle mixture needle (while the engine is running) from Fred. I pulled the old needle cleaned the carb and installed the adjustable needle from Fred. Good news is that cleaning the carb fixed the problem and the engine does not stall now. My question is, why does it seem like the idle mixture needle does nothing? I tuned the needle left (or rich) as much as possible, rode the bike and everything worked great. Then I screwed the needle in right (Lean) until I could not turn it anymore, rode the bike and everything was exactly the same. No popping or anything. Is this normal? My carb has been re-jetted by the previous owner. Adjusting needle with engine running from lean to rich does not change RPM's either. Any info would be great, Thanks, Jason N242ds@...

turn the pilot in almost all the way or even all the way and then turn the idle screw down. then youll find the spot where it stalls.

idle mixture

Jason, A couple things come to mind. What is your idle speed? If it's to high the idle mixture screw (pilot jet screw) you installed will not have much effect. Also, although I have not looked at mine, was there a small "O" ring on the old screw when you took it out? If there was, did you make sure to re-install the "O" ring? Almost forgot. Don't over tighten the screw or you can ruin the seating surface. Jon... ================================== At 08:23 AM 3/1/2005, Jason wrote:

So far not much, except for this KTM sportbike: _http://tinyurl.com/6e7ss_ (http://tinyurl.com/6e7ss) That sounds about right. For years KTM has been saying after the 940 Adventure they would be releasing a couple of street bikes, one of which would be a sport bike. They do have plans to take the 940 road racing.
