clymer vs. genuine + initial maintenance
hey folks,
I just got a great deal on an '04 klr w/764 miles
Is the clymer
manual as good (or perhaps better) than the factory manual set?
Also, I've read a bunch of online KLR stuff and it seems that I
should do the following soon:
valve clearance check and possible adj
doohickey swap
lube swingarm bearings
Are there any other critical things I should do? I'm gonna be doing
the usual stuff like checking fastener tightness.

I would also check for loose spokes, check for loose steering stem bearing, and change the oil if it hasn't been already. Then I would just RIDE THE THING. clymer vs. genuine + initial maintenance
I own the Kawasaki Factory Service Manuals, they are a pain in the ass to
use. They were originally written for the KLR 600 and then a "supplement"
for the KLR 650 was written. You have to keep flipping back and forth
between the two books. I don't have the Clymer, but it can't be any worse
than the Kawasaki ones, and it's cheaper!

clymer vs. genuine + initial maintenance
The Clymer manual is much better than the factory
manuals. Everything is in one place and much
easier to use. I have both, but use the Clymer
manual most often. The factory base manual is
used for the KLR 250, 600 & 650.

I would add changing out the fish oil in the front forks. Also, there are thousands of KLR's with 10's of thousands of miles on them with the stock doohickey. I would move that to the bottom of the list, but definitely do it at some point.
