I just bought a 2000 KLR with 5000km (3000miles) on it.I don't know
the history but there is not a scrath or scuff on it. Should I be
concerned about the valves. Should I have them measured, adjusted or
what. I only have experience with sport bike?
Second question, Is there an easy cheap way to get more power out of
a stocker. I'm used to 130+HP.

If it were my bike, I would want to know as much as possible about it. If I were you I would tear into as much stuff on the bike as possible, that even "might" need attention. So if you don't know where your valves are at, dive in and look foreward to not only learning how to do them on this bike, but set them to the far side of the spec and relax that the job is done for the next 6-10,000 miles. I would check the swingarm bearings for grease too. And the steering stem bearing.> what. I only have experience with sport bike?

Search the archives here. Short answer, NO. There's plenty of info showing you how to put a bunch of money and time into this bike to gain very very little. If your looking to get a noticable power increase, like 5 HP or more, forget it. Unless your rich, have a great machine shop lined up, and don't plan on riding it for the next 6 months. Ride it, and ride it everywhere and anywhere you want, get great gas milage, and be happy. Spend money on seat and suspension for the best ride quality and long hours in the saddle. and put the cap on it...!
