idle adjuster

I've removed the plug on my KLR and opened up the idle valve a bit. It starts great, the popping on decel is much less and there is less surge. The question is , why "less". It was about 2 1/4 turns out orignially, I turnes it out to 3 full turns. It still surges a at low speeds, around 3000 RPM, and goes through times where it pops on deceleration. Then it goes away. Is 3 turns about the limit? hould I try going furthe? _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! You probably have another issue. Does it pop through the exhaust or intake on decelleration? Surging at 3k is a sign of idle circuit mix. 2 1/2 turns should be sufficient to cure the problem. You may have dirt/varnish deposits in the idle circuit, on the idle needle, or the idle jet. First, try some carb cleaner in the tank. If that doesn't work, remove the stock idle jet and the idle mixture needle and carefully clean them. (This can be done by rotating the carb instead of removing it). The jet is so small it's easier to just replace it.

---------------- And . . . one more thing to investigate with "surge" problems: Chain Wear! If your chain is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth, and/or not in the middle of the publishd adjustment spec's, just loping along @ 3K under light load might masquarade as fuel surge. Worth checking out before getting too deep into carb surgery. Pat A14 Western WA

klr 250 tm33 installation

Post by Doug Walker » Sat Sep 04, 2004 8:31 am

Hi all, I have a 89 KLR 250. I bought a TM33 Mikuni to replace the stock CVK from Sudco. Unfortunately they did not have any mounting parts, so the project has been sitting for a while. The problem is with the oil line to the head. It is in the way of the carb mount, so it is not just a matter of installing a spacer to get the carb behind the top engine mounts and into the air box boot. I am sure someone has solved this problem--I am about to get creative (spend lots of money)......... Thanks for any ideas, Doug Walker
