2ndt:unknown wire on air cleaner box?
Re: Stock 1997 KLR 650:
In studying the wiring diagram for bike, and the parts diagram (available at: http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/) ... for the air cleaner and box, I still have "no clue" as to what I saw on my KLR (wire - or or tube with copper looking core - coming from front side of the thin wedge shaped part of the air cleaner box, right in front of battery). Right where it broke off from the air cleaner box, there is a little hump like nipple left over, like some part of left over plastic casting or possibly black silicon. Maybe something the former owner did? Pretty weird in my experience.
If anyone has seen anything like this, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
Still wondering, Bill

1st post:
In recently working on and fixing my Carburetor problem, I discovered a wire that has me scratching my head, wondering what the heck it is. The wire (or tube with copper looking core) comes from front side of the thin wedge shaped part of the air cleaner box, right in front of battery (I think that's the air cleaner box). This wire goes behind top shock mount over to what looks like a seam on the air cleaner box. It is also very brittle and mine broke with very little pressure. I got zero measurements on volt meter when engine was running, and zero measurement on my om meter.
Anyone else ever notice such a phenomena? I'm am totally stumped as to what this wire (or wire looking thing) is. I also wonder if it's important. ... Can anyone confirm I'm not seeing things unique to just my KLR and/or tell me what this wire (or wire looking thing) is?
Happy Trails, Bill
