Inside the right engine cover. Here is a picture of mine while I was working on it: (sorry for the blurry pic) http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid107/p41cd7ff18e5ebd07a2305205 ec2b2ec1/f9610de7.jpg The oil strainer recess is under the...uh...the round thing with 5 bolts around it's center. Transmission? Clutch? Here's a blurry close up of the recess: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid107/p36431b15ca6c1e9e8269f549 e6cd1600/f9610de3.jpg If you go to http://klr6500.tripod.com/index.html and look up the "water pump seals" procedure, you can see the how-to for removing the right side engine cover and other stuff that's in the way. You don't have to do all the seals and water pump part of the procedure if you're careful ** foot stomp **. Look at step 8 for the section on the oil strainer. You can also see the procedure at www.multisurfacemotorcycling.com under the KLR650 procedures page. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't try to do this 30 minutes before leaving for work on your KLR. Also, plan on changing the oil and coolant.>
