planning 13000 mile trip in spring with about half of it at 70 to 75 mph.I just verified that the speedo is about 11% optimistic. How much higher can I go on my gearing? The bike will probably be carrying about 275 pounds. Thanks for your help.

Posted this on the local group: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ecdsg/ Picking up my, new to me, 2004 KLR today. Supposed to get into the upper 20's, we'll see. New England meterologists are better at telling yesterday's weather. After some morning obligations its to the insurance lady, to the registry and then back to the dealer to get a "free" inspection sticker when I pick up the KLR. I work out of Lakeville, MA. I am self employed and have to work like a dog, but intend to use the KLR for some of my work related travel which is almost always limited to about a 25 mile radius. I started trail riding when I was 12 and used a CB100 for two years of it. yup thats a little honda street bike. Then my cousin let me use, what he was thinking, his 305 Dream and I rode another honda street bike through the woods and around the bogs for another year. Finally got to a CL125 trail bike before leaving the trails behind. only real dirt bike I rode back then is when a friend would loan out a YZ80 or CR100. I was a dualsporter and didn't even know it! "Back in the day" before I was old enough for the asphalt part of dual sport, we used to cover alot of miles on powerlines, gas lines, a municipal water line, a little railroad track, gravel pits along the way and tons of trails in between. Although we never had any problems around here on the lightly used spurs, for saftey issues i think rr track should be kept to a minimum or eliminated altogether. Now as an old phart I can just use blacktop in exchange; not a bad trade. I got my MC license when I was a scrawny 16 1/2 on my Dad's full dress 80 cubic inch. Now I am 37 and haven't ridden much for a few years. Last bike I had was a CR 250 which I sold three years ago. That was a blast of a bike. I live on the largest natural lake in Massachusetts, Long Pond. There have been snowmobiles running out on the ice for two weeks. I was walking out on it with my two little boys two weeks ago. A few pickups and jeeps have been out there this week. If anyone wants to do a winter dual sport ride later this week. Friday or Saturday, we could have quite a time running out on the pond and hitting a couple nearby trails that are KLR material. If a January ride doesn't sound like fun, I can cobble together a very decent dualsport ride this summer after I try out some old haunts and make some good maps. Lets DO it! Cheers, Andy

higher gearing

my bike will run 82.3 mph GPS says so. this is at 5500rpm .redline is 7000rpm. I'd run my bike around the world at that rpm. Real sweet spot on the highway with a load. oil use goes up. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "lotek20002000" wrote:
