Do I need to replace the steel plates along with the friction plates? and do I need new springs?

The steel plates are generally reuseable. If warped, they should be replaced. If discolored from heat, they should be scuffed to remove the discoloration. The springs are usually reuseable unless they have shortened and taken set outside the normal length limit. Otherwise, stronger springs are generally used to prevent clutch slippage when it has been a problem, or if engine output is increased. Eric in Pa

I have 50k miles on my KLR and was wondering if there are any instructions around for change the clutch plates when they wear out? Alex

The Acerbis fork/disk guards off of the DR350 work just fine, and run less than $35 at discount retailers like Chaparral or Dennis- Kirk. Under the Files section of the Yahoo DSN_KLR650 site, there is a folder labelled Marks. Inside the folder there are instructions and a zipped file containing a set of figures for the instructions. I've done four bikes and they seem to work well. Also, the adaptation is pretty straightforward. Good luck, MarkB
