I use 20-50wt standard automotive motor oil, or 15w-50 Mobil1 automotive oil. I have over 42,000 miles and never had a problem with the clutch from the auto oil. its half the price of motorcycle specific oil.

What oil do you guys use in your KLRs ? I'm not being sarcastic-----but I use cheap oil that is brown in color--20W50 if available. My motor will last forever, my clutch won't slip, I won't lose any sleep fussing over oil threads, it's available everywhere-----ahhhh, life can be so simple. Mark Sampson www.bigdogadventures.com

Shell Rotella-T dino, $8 gallon at Pep Boys or Wal-Mart. They also make a synth too, I just couldn't find it in stock here. Has a massive amount of additives in it and Shell says it's heavy-duty service design is great for a bike. Since going to Rotella-T, the bike sounds quieter, shifts smoother, generally better than it sounded and ran with the 10W-40 the DPO was running in it. The gallon container is convenient too.
