Hello listers. I just opened the top of our '04 650 to do the 500
mile valve check. Intakes are within spes(*I THINK*)at .006 and.005
however the right exhaust is at .011. DOH! If I am correct that would
make it .001 out of spec. I am thinking since the clearances should
close some more I should let it go another 500 or Thousand miles
before I go swapping shims. Yes? NO! Maybe? Thanks for listening. Joe

The engine is already apart. I don't recommend leaving those intakes where they are now... They'll be out-of-spec soon. Shoot for .008" on the intake side and .010" on the exhaust. The .011" right exhaust is probably OK. I'll fall back into spec soon enough. RM> Hello listers. I just opened the top of our '04 650 to do the 500 mile >valve check. Why wait so long, now that you seem to be getting the hang of it? Have one
every month!

Don't worry, if you miss this one, we will probably have another one next
year.

I had the exact same measurements, and had the exact same questions. I ended up changing the right exhaust valve shim to bring it to within spec. It was a tough decision though, because I would have rather not pulled those cam caps.
I had a hard time getting an answer from the group on wether or not it was OK to leave that valve slightly out of spec. So I deceided to go with what the manual said.
