gripster tread direction?

Post by hunter_chevy » Thu Jul 24, 2003 9:57 pm

I just installed a set of Gripsters tonight and have a question. When I installed them, I paid close attention to the rotation arrows. When done, I stood back and realized the two tread patterens are in oppisite directions from each other. I double checked both the tread pattern and the directional arrows. Is the front tire supposed to be "backwards" from the rear? Thanks. Hunte

gripster tread direction?

Hey there Hunte, I'm a big fan of the Avon Gripsters and did the exact same thing you did when I had my first set put on. Looks weird huh? Makes you stop for a second and say, "what the f**k!?!?" But, that is the way it is suppose to be. I get one guy a month at my Sunday morning rides look at my tires and say something about it not being right, but then I point out to them that "thats just the way the Gripsters go" MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special) --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "hunter_chevy" wrote:

I thought the same thing. But really, it makes sense when you think about it. The pattern is set up to provide max traction in one direction. To take advantage of that pattern for breaking traction on the front tire the pattern is opposite that of the rear (which is taking advantage of the tread pattern to pull). Yes. Directional tread patterns like these are optimised for the job they do. The front does most of the braking, the rear does all of the driving. Driving and braking forces are quite opposite. The tread blocks are designed to work in a certain way to distribute the forces over the casing and to stay stable under the design forces. Mister_T Melbourne Australia

The Duro 904s I have on my bike are directional pattern, but both front and back have arrows that point in the same direction the chevrons do. Is it optimum to mount the front backwards? BEAN

I have a C8 with a Pro Duro Race Can on it. It looks and sounds gorgeous. I have cut the 'L' shape out on the airbox. Replaced the stock air filter with a K&N filter. Removed the mesh webbing from the airbox. Replaced the needle with the KLX needle (position 2 from top). Replaced the main jet with the #160 KLX jet. Replaced the pilot jet with a #42 which I got from a private source. Pilot screw is one and a half turns out. It's a bit of an animal! Andy.
