torn vinyl seat repair?

Post by joelcannon@mac.com » Tue Jul 01, 2003 11:39 pm

I am looking at buying a used KLR650 with a small tear in the vinyl on the seat. Eventually I will want to replace it, but for the near term, I want to patch it so that I can decide if I am happy with the stock seat or not. Is there a recommended way to repair torn seat covers? Can I remove it and patch it (I think I already have the right kind of glue in the garage). If I like this seat - can I just replace the cover? Any other seat related advice for a newbie? Thanks, Joel

Auto parts stores sell vinyl repair kits which I have used with xome success, and which ought to work on the KLR seat.

Travelcade mades nice covers. Red, blue, black ect.. for about $20 available from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse. http://www.MAWOnline.com I recently ordered an exhaust and skid plate from them. Ordered several exhausts and 2 sets of tires from them in the past, they are fair.

Dual-Star sells a replacement seat cover that has Gel in it. (or did anyway) So you can be Gelling like a Fellon. Years back I remember a vinyl repair kit that you applied the goo, covered with a textured pad and heated with a iron to mold the goo into basically the same patteren. Dunno if its still out there, but know I have seen vinyl repair kits recently. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Scott, That is how the clutch has worked on both my KLRs since day one - very narrow band of engagement that comes just as the lever is almost all the way out. My cable is properly adjusted down at the clutch and up at the lever. The cable is in good shape and no problems with the clutch plates/basket/springs.
