pro grip 714 question

new klr...no brakes
I just drove my new KLR 2003 home from the dealer. I'm lucky I made
it. Braking was almost nil, just enough to slow down. I had to move
out of the lane into the shoulder to avoid a car that breaked ahead
of me even if I had a lot of time.
I tried to block the wheels on a dirt road to no avail. The handle
and the pedal go all the way to the end and it still does not block.
I called back the dealer bceause I was not impressed. His answer was
that it takes about 300 miles (500 kms) or so before they get better.
Am I taken for a ride (a dangerous one that is)?

I have to agree with Pat, but not only is your dealer a moron, I HOPE he has good liability insurance. Your dealer needs to have it explained to him that he WILL come to wherever the bike is, he WILL fix it and he should deliver it back to you. Sending any vehicle out the door with improper functioning safety equipment is an personal injury attorney's (which I am not by the way) dream, even in Canada.

I got an A17 (2003) three weeks ago, and it stopped just fine,
I'd guess the breaks aren't bled right. good luck on getting the
dealer to get it right. and be very careful if you ride.

Your dealer is definitely an idiot. Check your master cylinder.
My master cylinder cover wiggled loose the first day and started leaking
brake fluid. I bled and refilled that evening, and the brakes are fine.

Check what the lemon laws are in your state. In most states the lemon law
is for three-peats of a similar problem - but in many states a single
occurance of brakes, emissions or a few other occurances is cause for a full
refund of the purchase price. If this is so in your state - give him a call
and tell him he can come and fix it and have it back in 2 days or you will
have it shipped back for a full refund. That should get his attention.
How does a guy stay in business like that?

Armour-All on the rotors maybe ? or something to keep them from
rusting.. it will burn off in time, but I would use a cleaner and
maybe hit them with emory paper, since by now the pads are most
likely glazed over.. or wash the bike and let the rotors rust up
some, then apply the brakes to clean them...
But agree on a brand new ass cheek spanking bike.. its is not right.

pro grip 714 question
The facts are now online. You can see in this picture using my highly
accurate and recently calibrated Sharpie Pen measuring device that both Pro
Grip Gel Grips are pretty much the same length. The 737 on the left is a
better grip for riding off road where you need more grip or if you are
riding where it is wet. The 714 on the right is more comfortable but will
be slicker when wet.
