doohickey spring ?'s

Post by Brad » Fri Dec 06, 2002 9:44 am

I'm replacing the doohickey this morning with Jake's nice piece of art, mine originaly broke last March with 4500 miles on a A15. Found it 2 days after warranty expired, dealer would do nothing, same with Kaw. Anyway replaced it with the stock part, 6800 miles later it's still in one piece but it has obivously been beat up in area of the shaft fit, right where it broke last time, so it's good thing to be swapping this out. My question comes to replacing the spring, I have Jake's replacement, I have the used spring, and a new spring from Kawasaki that I didn't use last time I did this. It comes down to none of these put any real tension on the shaft, in fact if I turn the lever to a tight point all of them could just slide off the post with just a little finger pressure. Jake's spring is probably the tightest fit but no where near the tension I would expect this piece to be under, though it does the ends do hook up better. With any future adjustment there won't be enough tension to tighten the chain. Any ideas what up with this? Guess I'll be shopping for a spring this morning, I am not going to put this back together and have the damn spring fall off. Thanks to Jake for the quality parts, Devon and Mark for the excellent websites and to Fred for the tool! All of you are appreciated and don't get enough of the recognition you deserve. Brad A15
