If you're referring to the nerf bars, according to the DSN write-up, 8 lbs. Yeah, a little heavy, but IMHO worth it. It was fine on the HW but in city traffic it was kind of a pain, I have to do a lot of slow maneuvering around stopped traffic and the 16 required to much clutch slipping and rear brake dragging in the tight stuff. The stock 15 is much better in traffic but still too high for nasty off road, I'm thinking a 14T would be the ticket for off road and still OK on the freeway. I spoke to the Hindle (Mr. Hindle?) folks at International Motorcycle Show in Toronto last January. Sorted by city. Nothing like being broke down in Mexico and not knowing who you can trust. At the moment I can list only two. But I can recommend them absolutely. They know their stuff and they are fair and honest. In Monclova, Coahila, ask around until you find "dos Perros" or "two dogs" Jesus has been riding and wrenching since he was a kid will treat you fairly. His cousin down the street has a cheap clean hotel to boot. Second is for Mazatlan. In Maz. the only place I would take my bike to is "Diego's" Diego is a founding member of the "Mazatlan Moto Club" and has been racing bikes since the seventies. He is also a man of honor. Example: new Pirelli for rear, oil change and chain thoroughly cleaned and waxed. 110.00 US for everything.More than fair if you ask me. I wish I had a list of guys like him for the rest of mexico. It would make the next break down less worrisome and time consuming. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 17 Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 18:06:11 -0000 From: "ksveader" Subject: Waza Jumpa? I was glad to have the 14t, although the 15 would probably have been OK. Now that I am back to the commuter grind, however, I find the 14t just barely OK on a 30 mile freeway jaunt. I usually feel safer running a little faster than traffic, which I could do readily with the 15t. The 14t requires me to run well over 6000 rpm to stay ahead of the flow, so I usually just ease up and stay out of the left lane. Also, with the 14t, I find myself reaching more frequently for that non-existent 5th gear, especially on entrance ramps. Now that my vacation is over, the 16t will be going on soon, at least until the next dual-sport ride. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 23 Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 20:11:21 -0000 From: "judjonzz" Subject: Re: highway gearing --- In DSN_klr650@y..., "judjonzz" wrote: ... with the 14t, I find > myself reaching more frequently for that non-existent 5th gear, > especially on entrance ramps. Standing on the left side of the bike, I grabbed the cross bar on the handlebars and the passenger hand hold on the left side, with my foot on the centerstand, lifted the back and pulled the front and it zipped right up on the stand. I'll try your way too, I'd hate to yank my bars out of whack doing it the way I did. Sure wish it was more stable when deployed. I wonder if applying the front brake via rubber band (rigged parking brake) would help... or if it would hurt the front brake. Hmmm..
