bearing noise?
I've got the Tengai back together but now have a couple of new
problems.
1. The back brake now doesn't work,it was fine a month ago when I
last rode.No leaks and I have bled it.
2. There is 'whirring' noise (bearings?) from the left side.I have
stripped it down again but everything looks OK.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

are the brake pads closing? remove the caliper and press the brake lever to see if the pads move sound like you might have only one pad catching the rotor at a guess and the other one not closing causing the rotor to slide against the one pad one of the pistons might be jammed (you didnt say if the noise was there all the time or just when you try to apply the brake. just an idea paul A16> I've got the Tengai back together but now have a couple of new > problems. > 1. Tony in UK, I too am hearing a left side of the engine case whirring noise that I best can describe as a chain noise. I notice it when stopped at idle the most, and don't remember it being this noticeable when the bike was new last September (A16 model now with 7,800 miles). I don't know if I am just paranoid from all the List induced Doohickey fear phobia, or if it is real. The sound would be described as follows: Rev up your chain saw full blast, cut off the motor power and let a slack chain continue to free- wheel on the bar and sprocket. That's the best descriptor I can think of. There is no grinding or banging noise. I have done several recent adjustments of the balancer bolt using the Eldon Carl method with no change in the "whirring noise". I have not yet opened the Magneto cover to do a visual inspection. Anyway (or is it "anyhoo" up north speak), I plan to order the parts to do the doohickey/balancer lever upgrade soon. Already got my Super Jake Doohickey at the Moab get-together at the campround "MOAB FACTORY OUTLET STORE" of Sagebrush Machine Shop. I will update the list when the upgrade is done to see if the noise changes. Billy in Dripping Springs, Texas, USA> 2. Are you sure it's not a stick link on your drive chain? I run my drive chain loose and it will make noise, especially where it contacts the frame guards. Yes, it will be nice when everyone drives a Smart car or something similar.
The KLR would really tower over traffic then! Maybe in 15 years when gas is
$8 a gallon. Or $2 a litter, Because I'm sure the Metric System will have
caught on here by then
