All, I have read in posts in the past about the oil level indicator is too low, and that if I'm not seeing any oil in that indicator, that I need to add at least 10oz of oil. Just want to confirm this before I start pouring this evening! My A15 is my first bike (ever), and the last thing I want to do is ruin anything! Thanks in advance, Todd sully1965@... No, those who advocate the site glass being too low are saying when you can just start to see oil at the top of the glass it is 10 ounces too low...

I don't know if it's in the wrong place. But when I do a full oil and
filter change and add the anount Kawasaki says it's above the sight
glass after being run. If I see the oil below half way in the glass I
add till there isn't any air visible. I mostly overfill the Kawasaki
because I seem to burn alot of oil. A15 12,000 miles. I found that
anything lighter than 20w-50 gets used up faster regardless if it's
winter or summer. I used both synthetic and regular and the synthetic
seems to get used up a little faster the the regular. I still run
synthetic because it doesn't break down as fast as Dino lube

I won't go into the too high/too low debate, but if you don't se ANY
oil at all in the window...you definitely need to add some. OF course
this is with the bike perpendicular to a flat spot on the earth (ie.
NOT on the sidestand).

Would somebody correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the drill to get the
byke vertical, then add the required amount of oil. This just brings it
to the top of the sight glass, but the byke has to be vertical before
the set-up works. I think that if the byke is leaning on the stand, you
will have a lot of extra oil in there before you see it.

It's all the same really. Your way, you have to hold it up vertical, fill
it, start the motor and fill the oil filter, shut off, top up.....
I prefer to just dump in the amount recommended by the manual and forget
about it.

Speaking of oil, I just had my bike on a stand today and noticed that
the oil was almost barely reaching the bottom of the window. I am
getting a tune-up next week but need to put in 500 miles this weekend.
Question: would you guys just toss in 5-10 oz. of synthetic oil to
bring up the level CONSIDERING the fact one doesn't know the oil type
of what is already in there? (I just bought the bike with 11k on it)

Hey Sam, I'd just dump in Honda GN 10-40 and be done with it.
Call the seller and ask if it is synthetic or not, but I wouldn't
sweat it.

I would pour in whatever oil I had handy. Dino, synthetic, 5/30, 10/30,
10/40, 20/50, heavy duty straight30......
Don't worry about it.
In the end you will do much better to buy $1.00/qt Castrol 20w50 or
something similar, and change it three times as often as you would if you
used $6.00/qt Mobil 1.
