trailwing tw22 vs tw42

Post by Lujo Bauer » Fri Mar 29, 2002 4:27 pm

Anybody have any thoughts about the difference between these two types of Bridgestone Trailwings? They're both OEM on 650cc singles, and look relatively similar as far as dirt/street bias is concerned. Any thoughts as to whether one is better than the other? Thanks, -Lujo [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I can't tell you anything about the TW42, but I recently put a TW22 on the rear and a TW21 on the front. The TW21 is similar to the stocker. The TW22 is completely different. It has good knobs on the outer portions of the tread. In the center area there is basically a continuous section of rubber that is in contact with the ground. I have only had them on for about 400 miles. About 100 of that in the dirt. I find no problems yet. They handle fine in desert terrain. I don't have a clue as to how they would handle in rain. (I'm in the Phoenix area.) I expect them to outlast the originals. The TW21 and TW22 come in the size Kawasaki recommends for the bike. The TW42 may not be the same size. Bridgestone seems to have a different model number (TW22, TW42, etc.) for each different tire size. Ron

The TW 22 shown on the Bridgestone site is not the TW22 I put on last December. See: http://www.chaparral-racing.com Go to tires/bridgestone/honda to find this model photo. It has a "meaty" grooved center tread with knobbies on the shoulder. Have ridden a few hundred miles of gravel with it, am confident. Asphalt performance is way better than stock Dunlops. (less buzz, better handling). Am running a TW 41 front, mainly for the loose gravel. The combo works well for me .... as I need to cover a lot of miles on paved roads to get to the better riding off-highway parts of the region. Plus, should be less prone to wearing out the center tread far earlier than the rest of the tire ... a problem we flatlanders face with any tire. Both wear about the same.....short lifespan I've run both and prefer the 41-42 combination. These I'll run if running local mostly, or say for 60/40. This is due to their uncanny stability in twists..they grip great....espcially when true and balanced. For tours, and when loaded heavy....I get rid of them. Toby

This apparantly only works for individual email delivery. I view messages on the web and the fucking ads are still there.
