fork disassembly.....help needed.

Post by bischoffmm » Wed Mar 13, 2002 11:10 am

Good Morning, I am in the process of replacing boots and front fork seals. Guys, is there some kind of a trick to pull the chrome tubes out of the fork bases? The allan screws in the bottom keep turning and turning and turning.... How do I loosen those screws so I can pull out the chrome tubes? Am I that stupid?.....don't answer that. Thanx for your help....as always. Hal from Cleveland.

Hi, I did my fork springs, seals, and boots a few weeks ago without separating the inner fork tube from the outer. I removed the fork from the bike and popped the seals by pumping a little air into each tube -- they went out quite easily. I've heard that one needs to be careful when using air to pop the seals because there is danger of damage to the fork if too much air is used; i.e., use this method at your own risk. :) Cheers, -Lujo

No offense taken. I'm severely lusting after the 2003 Yamaha FJR1300 and will probably write to the list should I decide to buy one. Unfortunately, it won't even be available until July or August. Maybe I'll regain some sanity by then. It would also be only the second bike I've ever owned. Brad J. Morris A16 "1 Putt" Illinois
