It does look like the kit ? I seen one at Sam's, but all were still in boxes, and the image on the box was less than perfect. But around $100 sounded good, I passed on it for now. Attempting to get my mostly retired Dad to make me one, showed him a few from mags and stuff, dont think he took the bait. But might have to try again when he gets back from there winter vacation. Not because I am a cheap SOB this time, but figured it would give him something to do, I bet his welder has'nt been fired up in over 6 months, I think he tried to tell me to take it once already when I mentioned buying one of them cheap 110v hobby type wire feeders for tinkering, then he gave me the lecture about how 110v just cannot provide enuff juice to make a good penetration on any weld, other than maybe sheet metal blah blah blah. Talking about somebody who welded crane booms for a living and had much of his work x-rayed as a QA thing. Ooops sorry did'nt even notice I was on a soapbox.. Duden A15 Pilot

I have one of those Costco lifts, 99.99 if I remember correctly. This is a great stand for working on a bike with no lower fairing, and exposed frame rails. I use it for my KLR and both my SR500s. You would have to make a cradle to fit a bike with an underslung exhaust, belly pan etc. I also have one of those 110v wire-feed welders. For a welder with your Dad's qualifications, they look like a set of rusty vice-grips. They work, up to 1/8" mild steel (for 1/4" you have to bevel and weld both sides), but they make a god-awful mess and cleanup takes 10 times the work of the prep and actual welding. Trail Riders of Houston and the newly formed AMA District 20 Off Road have joined together to put on a Dual Sport ride in New Waverly, Texas on April 28, 2002. The road route will take in about 150 miles of forest roads. With the cooperation of the Forest Service and the weather there will also be a trail route available for bikes with aggressive tires and drivers craving a physical work-out. Flyers are not yet available, but anyone interested in the ride can email me off the list. I will forward the flyer (or a link to it) as soon as it is available.
