ticking noise in motor / balancer chain slop/problems a-plenty

Post by Stuart Mumford » Thu Nov 22, 2001 11:17 am

Hey Mark, why would it make a difference if I adjusted the tensioner with the cover off? I haven't done that, but right now I have the side cover off and if that would make a difference ... After looking at the shop manual and probing as best as I can with a magnet, there is no broken metal in there, and I'm guessing my spring may have come off... It's a 99 with 16 k miles, if that makes a difference. CA Stu A13 Riverside CA Hey Stu, Have you adjusted the tensioner while you have the cover off? Has the tensioner run out of travel? If you're out of travel and there's still slack, the only things I can think of are that maybe a chunk of chain guide broke off, or, you may have had a failure of the tensioner lever itself (http://www.personal.psu.edu/mjv2/IdlerLever.jpg)

If it just doesn't have any left, you may have to replace the chain, or the spring may be stretched too far. dat brooklyn bum

Beside the socket, what modifications to KLR 650 [mine is an A16] need to be made for a heated vest to work? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
