swing arm bearings - dry?
I've heard Kawi does a lousy job lubricating the swing arm bearings. Is this
true? If so how long should you wait to tear the bike apart to get to them.

swing arm bearings - dry?
Easy on the panic. There is some in there, enough to get you through the
break-in, but not enough to get to the 1st recommended lube interval. But
yeah, do it straight away and you know its done. I like to wonder about
other things than whether there's enough lube in there or not.

I concur with Rich's comments. I pulled my suspension apart at 10,000
km (mostly highway) and the bearings were still lubricated with no signs
of wear but the factory sure is cheap with the grease. Best to pull it
apart at or before the recommended interval.

swing arm bearings - dry?
At around 9,000 I removed the swing arm and found that everything was
dry and also some corrosion on the main bolt that holds the swingarm
on. I did not need a sledge hammer as some other listers have
experienced in removing the main bolt, but it was overdue for some
lube!!
My friend has a 00' KLR and I keep trying to tell him to take it
apart now and get some lube in there....
My mileage was about 75% highway, but the 25% off road always
involves deep mud and water holes. (see
http://klr650.20m.com/members.htm for an example of the mud!)
This is an easy job, can be done in a few hours.

Thanks to all who responded to my post. The experience and expertise
on this list is a great asset to new KLR owners.
