Hey Guys, I just had a very nice young woman approach me after seeing my helmet. She said she has been looking for a bike and at 5'5" she hasn't found anything inexpensive that fits her. She doesn't want a cruiser. From her descriptions, I'm thinking naked sport bike. She says the closest she got to comfortable was on an SV650 but she still had only her toes on the ground. Any help? By the way, it will be her first bike so of course I volunteered the KLR for her to practice on after she finishes her MSF course. Her first reaction was "Wow, that thing is BIG!" What could I say but "Why yes, it is!" Thanks, Jim Jackson II A13 "Gonzo" Baltimore, MD _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

OK, you're holding something back. Did she polish it yet? Seriously now, An old GPZ 550 is not hard to find, and they are great street bikes. They don't fetch high prices, either.

[snip] Maybe an SV650 with a shaved-down saddle? My GF has a CBR600F4 with a modded stock saddle that she can darn near flatfoot. I backed off all of the preload (front and rear) and now it's even better (and she likes the smoother ride, too). Dunno if you can adjust preload on an SV though. Probably not... Anorther option is the EX500 - neat bike but too expensive for what you get when you compare it to the other standards. Bandit 600 and ZR-7 are quite a bit heavier than the SV and the Bandit is quite a bit taller I think. GS500 is OK if you can get past the styling. RM

Last year I thought I just had to have one of these....The dealer I was at wouldn't take a Jap bike in trade (Concours). I sold the Connnie now, but the Gran Canyon dosen't look quite as attractive (grass greener?) . I rode one last year and the bike was fun to drive although it was a little different with the twin gas tanks (actually integrated in the fairing). Also noted the speedo read kilometers not miles. I also had some concern regarding tune-up cost and freq. Just going to enjoy the KLR for now...may end up with another Connie! One other comment: Anyone out there know of a used Russell saddle available or make suggestions for other solutions regarding touring with the KLR as I plan on riding to Moab in a couple of weeks and not enough time to order a new seat. Thanks, Joe
