It has been some time since I was involved in motorcycles... things have changed. A lot! For instance... Enduro used to mean street legal trail bike. Now it means motocross race bike with lights and not suitable for street use. Dual sport used to mean a letter in football and baseball. Now it means what enduro did mean... and what the heck is a motard, or a supermotard even? As I thought about the term motard, I concluded that my old Bridgestone 90 must have been a motard, or at least motarded. But after further reflection, it came to me that it was just a moturd. Upon hours of reading and diligent study I am inclined to think that motard is something desirable. * Where can I buy a motard? * How much do they cost? * Will people laugh at me if I ride a motard? (I have a tender ego) * How do you turn a motard into a supermotard? Or for that matter how do you turn a mo into a tard? * Or is this whole thing a new form of pig-latin technospeak that I missed out on? Life is perplexing... Once again time has passed me by. Thanks, Larry :o)

Larry, A supermotard is a motocross with race bike tires. It is used in races that include high speed on tarmac track and dirt track with jumps. All in one. It is a very popular sport in Europe.

I had to catch up on terms a bit as well but it all remains fun. I may dump my Honda XX for a motoard, or a super motard, whatever. Today I was out teach ing my 17 year old to ride the KLR250, she is starting to get it. I had fun on the 650 learning a bit about it in the dirt, and 65 degrees isn't bad. Now-a-days they tack on "extreme" to make things sound new. "Extreme" skiing was illegal skiing or virgin powder. "Extreme" bicycling was mountain biking was trail bicycling. "Extreme" challenges were triathalons or trekking. "Extreme" sledding was a couple of rednecks, a 4X4 pickup, a car hood, a rope, a open field, and (last but not least) a case of beer. Kinda like George Carlin's progression of "shell shock" to "post traumatic stress disorder".

******************* You left out: "Extreme" sex, used to be the ewe and a pair of hip boots. Judging from the shit on TV nowadays, it's likely to involve you and a pair of hip boots. -- bierdo

If it's not common, it's extreme - if that's the case, everyone on this list is an extreme motorcycle tourer. If it's extreme then it's ordinary. I can't even watch the Xgames on ESPN - this is new, that's new - hell, 10 years ago I was doing alot of that stuff. We called it f@#$ing around. Let's add scoring to it - NOW it's an "extreme sport". "Swede"
