cartidge forks vs. what the klr has .... and what makes them better

Post by Luke Reimer » Wed Jan 10, 2001 12:06 am

I have seen alot of references to cartidge forks lately and have found no references on the Net or in the List archives that explain what is the difference between catridge forks and, as

the KLR manaul descibes them, 'air-adjustable forks' ..... lots of info on preload, spring rates, oil level, etc. but nothing on the differant 'types' of forks ...

A couple ?'s if you all might 'humor' me for a minute ....

1. Whats the differance between cartidge forks and the KLR forks? I know that most MX and Enduro bikes have cartridge, so they MUST be better, right?

2. Cartidge emulator ... how do they work in general, in a KLR shock, and do they work?

3. I have heard the DRZ400S does NOT have cartridge forks like the DRZ400 and 400E .... true or false?

I found some great info on the Progressive suspension site about their progressive rate fork springs, and have seen many positive posts about them ... I assume that they
make the fork much better than stock, but will it be anywhere near as good as a MX fork with these springs?

Any links to info on the net about this would be great.
