valve adjust turns into new head or motor?

Post by grandeal@hotmail.com » Mon Dec 11, 2000 10:22 am

Does anyone have any info on getting a replacement head or motor for my 89 KLR 650? Also can anyone tell me if you can replace the valve seats or do you have to machine them and try to find bigger valves? While adjusting the valves we found that my left intake was way out of spec. spec is 4 to 8 mine was 1 1/2 with a 2.05 and the shims don't go down low enough to fix the problem. My left exhaust was out a lot also. A leak down test told us that I had a little exhaust leak. I know the engine had the lower end rebuilt around 3,000 miles to what extent I don't know It now has 10,000 . At these miles things shouldn't be that far out of spec. So I'm not to confident of the rebuilders job. I'm the third owner of the bike and the first owner had the engine lower end rebuilt. If anyone else has had valve or lower end problems Any further info would be great! Thanks ALAN
