the best 'maintenance free' (after market) battery ?

Hello folks, Is there an option to the regular stock battery ? At the Mechanic's we tried fitting one of those Maintenance free batteries (The one's which don't need distilled water) but the terminals were reversed and it didn't fit properly in the housing also. It would be great to get hold of a good long lasting battery. An extra cigarette lighter output for a laptop/extra light/ heated vest has been installed and I was planning on a trouble free international travel spanning around six months. The archives on this list have been a great source of information for the preparations on the klr unfortunately I couldn't find anything on batteries. Thank you, Brar
