I am looking for opinions on helmet choice:
During a five week KLR (August - September) trip in Asia, what is the helmet
of choice? Dual Sport with goggles or Full face?
I am considering wearing a full face Shoei RF-800 with tinted visors for day
and clear by night. I where glasses and plan on using some sort of Cloth in
front of my mouth and nose area for filtering dust.
The roads should be about 50 % dirt and 50 % paved. Average daily rides
will be 250 miles...with the longest 400 miles...and rain will most probably
be expected for part of the trip. Tires will be Gripsters.
Your comments are appreciated...several of us going on the trip read this
list and appreciate the combined power, knowledge and wisdom of the members.
Thanks,

With a Nolan N70 you can have both or a combo such as full face with visor. Why compromise? Bogdan> During a five week KLR (August - September) trip in Asia, what is the > helmet of choice? Dual Sport with goggles or Full face? >

I would try and find an Arai DualSport...MAW is rumored to still have some. It would be perfect as you have the best of all worlds. Otherwise, I'd be tempted to go with the cooler lighter in weight dual sport with goggles big enough to cover your glasses. Kurt> of choice? Dual Sport with goggles or Full face?

Last I heard, System helmets are not available in the US. Besides, everyone
is smart enough not to pay $400+ dollars for one.

One that fits well and is Snell certified. The best thing to do is to hit the local motorcycle shops and start trying them on. If you want a road helmet, a popular lower-cost lid is the HJC CL-12 along with the slightly higher-priced LT-12. The Shoei RF-R (cheaper) and RF-800 (more expensive) are good mid-priced lids. If you want an MX helmet, I dunno. I can't find any that fit (all are too small). RM>I was wondering what would be a good helmet to buy?

One that fits your head! Sounds like a joke but believe me it's not. Find some place that has helmets and try them on then go to another place and repeat. klr 600 info
I have a 1984 KLR 600 with 12000 kms on it. It has so far been very reliable
and performance is excellent. I will go 170Km/hr on the highway and I've
taken it to the drag stip and run high 15's (hard to launch - wants to
wheelie). I ride 150Kms a day on the highway on it rain or shine. I dropped
the front sprocket to a 14 tooth and installed Pirelli MT21 (Dot knobbies)
These mods really improve performance in the dirt but the tires are a little
weird on pavement.
The biggest problem I have with the bike is fuel mileage. I can only go
about 180Kms before I need to fill up again. Usually hit reserve at 150.
It's kind of a pain cause I need to fill up every day.
If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to answer. $1500 seems like
a good price if it's in good condition.
