klr weekend road trip

This weekend was awwwsome, I had a cabin at TWO, and missed alot of the campfire shenanagins, but the ride I took saturday was great. I decided to do a paved road trip this time. I left TWO at 10am and headed for Deals Gap. Not far up 180 was Mac and the rescue crew picking a rider off the side of the mountain. That guy was lucky all he had is a broke collar bone. I got up to Deals Gap, it was my first time there, and went in to check it out. I had to go to the restroom but the line was too long, so I want on up the road and watered the trees. While I was about to get back to my journey, 3 sport bikes came whizzing up the hill. The 3rd one didnt make it. He ended up against a rock bank, and partly in the road. It was a blind curve, not a good place to be. As I came running up I could see him moving, so I knew he wasnt road kill. Actually he survived with only a badly brused shoulder, brused ego, and a crunched VFR. He had a good riding suit with padding and it worked. A nice older couple in a big camper thing stoped and gave him a ride back to deals gap, and I continued along my way. When I got to Pigeon Forge Tenn, their were bikes everywhere, but it started raining, and I didnt stay long. I took the Gatlinberg by-pass, because I knew I'd just be stuck in traffic if I went down there. Then across the Smokies. It was some light rain giong up and at the top, but it got kinda cold up there. Of coarse the Harley guys wernt cold, they were in t shirts. When I got to Cherokee NC, it was gridlock. They had a big bike rally there. I tried every way I know to get out of there, but I was still stuck in traffic about 30 minutes. I was getting kinda pissed because I wanted to get back to camp in time to munch on some fresh trout. I am glad I have my supertrapp when surrounded by hundreds of Harleys. I finally got out to some open road again and headed south. I made it back in time, but just barely. And if yall missed the trout fest, you missed some good grubbing. After the 350 mile trip on the KLR on some extreme twisties, I was suffering from a bad case of monkey butt. I cant wait to do it again!
