Dust, you big grinning rhino rider, the chain tensioner you describe was a
stock item on my 1973 ossa trials bike.I seem to remember that they felt
that it allowed for a smoother transferance of torque to the rear wheel and
not necessarily a way to get away with more slack.If your chain is
stretched/loose its probably best to notice it ASAP and not have it
"masked". The ossa sawed through the block (I think they were only a hard
rubber back then) fairly quickly, bolts and all, I gave up replacing it.As
for the oil level I think most of Listers went for the larger diameter
sight-glass upgrade
