I have a KLR 650 and am new to motorcycling (extensive cycling background). I rode a rainy muddy ride with two of my friends that are both members of the blue and white world and have extensive MC experience. One had a R100GS the other was on a R1150GS. They were both hating life, but those tanks keep them from leaving a newbie like me in the dust off road. One of my partners at work (a former NY state enduro champion) owns a R1100GS and has an 1150 on order. He appreciates it for what it is, a road bike that can take big pot holes. His comment was the GS is NOT an off road bike. He should know. M P.S. Try to buy a BMW like the ones in PDC, they're totally different than the public model. At least you can hop on a KTM that is the same as the team bike.
