LIS Bluray

Post by Philip Hamilton » Thu Sep 17, 2015 7:30 pm

Today I sit down and finished all of the bonus features on Disc 6 - except the Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen which I had seen before.

The "read through" of LOST IN SPACE:THE EPILOGUE is fantastic.  They've added some sound effects and music and have spliced in some stock footage that makes the story more enjoyable.  Kevin Burns absolutely channeled Jonathan Harris.  I was surprised that even watching a table read - this story and performances moved me.  It was fun to see Bill, Mark, Marta, and Angela all in character.  And, we see Don and Judy actually kiss  - which we've never seen before.
The GALLERY of photos is very nice.  Many I have seen before and many I have not seen.  All color - corrected and in glorious High Definition.

The Cast interviews are also good - particularly Bill Mumy doing a show and tell of some things he's kept over the years related to LOST IN SPACE.

You can tell I think that the participants really enjoyed doing these extras and bonus bits.

So they had Kevin's B9 there - because he has a part too.  But, the claws - someone - PLEASE - send Kevin Burns accurate claws.  They look horrible.

Now, on to some more commentaries.  --phil

So...Are there any restored scenes that were not in the previously available versions?

I don't think so but I did watch Condemned of Space in widescreen and it looked excellent and very nice in that aspect ratio.  I noticed something I don't recall seeing and it may be that due to showing more information on the sides this popped out : Will and the robot are in the prison and right before they enter a cell, through the frosty glass, you can see the prisoner adjust the spear in his hands right before they enter. I don't recall seeing this before.
It's very obvious.
Also they did some wire removal on The Reluctant Stowaway.  Would love to see a doc on exactly what was restored.

I don't think there was any wire removal done. I saw every wire during the anti grav sequence very plainly. In fact more obvious than ever! Thank god really.

You might have watched a different version of it. In the commentary with Kevin Burns he mentions how they removed the wires in that scene and you can see they did in fact remove them. He also mentions there was talk of fixing the scene in "Invaders From the 5th Dimension" where you can see Bob's legs sticking out of the Robot but since it's one of the fans favorite bloopers, they kept it in.         -Roy

You are correct Roy, I watched the Network version. I would have thought they would use the same video for both versions but obviously not. looking forward to seeing it again without wires!

This set sound great! Must check if it has been released in the UK yet. I have watched, a couple of times, the evening with Jonathan Harris filmed in Australia and even in old age, he was still entertaining to watch and listen to.
Kind regards,

--phil

I know they have region free blu ray players for us users, perhaps they have it for NTSC to pal as well.

Looks like Mike Joyce's robots make an appearance in the "Tribute To Irwin and Sheila Allen" section! How cool is that?!?  -Roy
