Last drop of dino oil
My '66 GT is GHD3L93014 and does not have the reverse lamps. It was delivered new by a San Francisco M.G. dealer to a Marine Corps officer stationed there in 1966, traveled with him to duty stations in Hawaii and Virginia before being replaced with a yank tank when his family outgrew it.
"Back in the day" the year on the title in some states was determined by when the vehicle was first titled, not the actual model year of the vehicle. GTs didn't sell as well as expected in the U.S. when first introduced. That's why the US distributor came up with a dealer installed "Special Edition" package of wood rimmed steering wheel, wood shift knob, an outside mirror and some badging in '67 - to help move 'em out! It is entirely possible that your '66 sat on the lot unsold until '68.

Any US-spec metal-dash GT..... except for the addition of reverse lamps to the back panel somewhere around GHD3L90000, all of the GTs between 72000 and 132000 are going to be pretty much the same spec, regardless of titled year. Mine's GHD3L84584 (pre-reverse lamps), which I think might have left the factory in '66. Although it was titled as a '68 in the US. If we call them all '67s, we're close enough....

Re: Last drop of dino oil
My '67 MGB GT was purchased locally to me in Cornwall from the first owner in 1975. I have had a couple of sets of replacement sills fitted over the years due to the damp weather here but other than these the Sandy Beige paint is original.Sandy Beige was an extension to the colour range specifically for the GT version of the MGB. Never the most popular colour, I think they are quite rare these days although on Ebay here in the UK currently a nice looking one from 1970 is achieving a sale if you want to bid. The seller lists the car as Bedouin Beige and I am not sure if BMC just changed the name or the shade in 1970 but from the pictures the colour looks identical to mine.

- Mike Hughes - '37 TA 0512 From: "phil smith" mgpsmith@att.net> To: arm@telus.net Sent: Tuesday, 6 February, 2018 14:45:35 Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Last drop of dino oil Any US-spec metal-dash GT..... except for the addition of reverse lamps to the back panel somewhere around GHD3L90000, all of the GTs between 72000 and 132000 are going to be pretty much the same spec, regardless of titled year. They were known as GT Specials, the wood steering wheel and the mirrors and the plaques that mounted on the fenders were supplied by a local ( to me ) sport car/racer supply company called Trackstar, it was located in Queens New York and owned by a fellow name of Bob Janson , he said he supplied the stuff to Hambro who was importer on East Coast . He was still in business in 1975 and offered me steering wheels with hubs fro 25.00 each but they were early hubs with large spline and they would not fit the later cars and in those days no one was spending over 25 dollars for an early steering wheel . My biggest regret was that he had a beautiful Nardi Steering wheel for an XK 120 and I believe a Mercedes Gullwing @ 100.00 each but again way to much money

Re: Last drop of dino oil
I've seen one of those Sand Beige GTs and thought it suited the car, even with the red interior. Grampian Gray was another GT exclusive color that's pretty rare, too.
