craig vetter's klr

I talked with Craig just after he made his first prototype. I suggested that KLR owners would want something they could remove for offroad or better yet something crash resistant enough to survive repeated  dual sport drops. Craig said he wasn't targeting dual sport or adventure riders but rather was most interested in maximizing the mpg of a street worthy motorcycle.  He chose the KLR because they were plentiful, cheap and easy to dramatically change final drive ratios.  But the KLRs biggest virtue to him was the low engine output.  He only needs 15 or so HP to cruise at highway speeds  and the KLR has less "hp overkill" than other candidates. Its all about the gas mileage and highway uses. From: robert@... Sent: 4/ 9/ 2014 19:36 To: sniperone308@...; roncriswell2@...; moabmc@... I suppose it works well. Not very good looking (to me).

How many of you know that the designer of the Vetter Windjammer and many other notable accomplishments over the years also rides a KLR? Craig Vetter has made an aluminum fairing for his KLR because,

I want easy maintenance. I want utility. I want rugged durability. I want a fairing designed to take on the Alcan highway. And, I want it to keep me warm and dry. http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/vetter_fairings/Alcan-Fairing/Alcan-Fairing%20-P1.html   Sounds like Mr. Vetter is a perfect fit for the KLR design.

Craig and his brother have been in contact with me about using the front Superbike fenders that I sell on their KLR project.  Craig is all about maximizing fuel mileage and this fender should help but it looks like from their photos they are not using the fenders I sold them yet or maybe these are earlier photos.

Lots of good interesting reading here....  http://www.craigvetter.com/index.html
