Was smiling while reading all the lube da chain advise. I remember in the early 70's, when racing a sand / creek track. Take the chain ( no orings back then ) Clean it, have a pot of wax with grafite mixed it it. Bring it toe fully melted and put the chain in there and stir it around. Dig it out and hang it to harded. Make sure you hang it are you can't get it on any more. LOL. REally helped the chain live a bit longer back then. Now, I use Dupont Teflon lube. . Even just off a wet road. Been working pretty good for my on my KLR and Bandit. But then, X ring chains on them that was not available 50 years ago. Or 40 and not many at 30.

oiling chain - rain
In that very same era, I'd boil the chain in gear lube. Hey .it made me feel I was doing something good for the chain. Also, gave my nostrils a workout.
