I was going to suggest this check. There should not be any gas in this
line. If there is gas in the line it is leaking from a failed petcock
diaphragm. Rather than trying to get the vacuum-operated petcock to work
properly, I'd convert the stock petcock to full-manual or fit an aftermarket
petcock (e.g Pingel, ~$100)
