scary oil consumption

Post by Thomas Komjathy » Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:06 am

I have done this to several KLRs with good results. This fix stands alone, it isn't a fix for the ring problem mentioned by Fred. When the KLR is run at high RPM, the large piston creates a pumping action in the crankcase. On the down stroke it pressurizes the case and on the up strock it puls air back in for the next pumping of the down stroke. These pressure pulses push oil vapor into the airbox and it is either burned or gets trapped in the drain tube. The PCV Valve will allow pressure out on the down stroke of the piston, but will close on the up stroke, creating a vacuum, or neutral pressure in the case and prevents this pumping action. At lower RPMs it's not a problem for the KLR. A service technitian learns WHY,  If a nail? remove the nail, THEN patch it. if the rim is causing it, fix that also. Mark (west Mich.) Thanks for the input, but as was asked earlier where can a person find an article or instructions on how to do this?   Thanks, Rick From: Thomas Komjathy To: mark ward ; sh8knj8kster ; DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wed, April 28, 2010 10:01:07 AM Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Scary oil consumption   I have done this to several KLRs with good results. Rev, you picked the wrong weekend to come to the Cities. This Saturday's forecast is 66 and sunny, perfect for the tech day at Paul's house, perfect for a ride in the coulees afterwards.
