'08-'09 klr parts wanted

Monty, I rode an 08'KLR650 at the Kawi demo ride, Vintage Bike Days locataed at Mansfield, OH, July of 2008. My 'position' in the demo ride was number 4 behind lead and two Connies. Trailing me was a guy on a Versis. I smiled as we pushed the 'start' button. I would let the connies get a little ahead and then would reel them in--spiritedly. At each stop sign and turn point, I made it a point to make the guy on the versis a continouusly, smaller dot in my mirror. Back at the start/finish point, the guy jumps off his bike and runs forward, staring at the KLR650, "What is that!" I just smiled, "KLR650" and walked away. He was still looking dumbfounded at the KLR for several minutes when I turned back to see the bikes. Shoot. 6 years later, I still have the same look every time I look at mine. revmaaatin.

Sent this last night, but apparently didn't select reply all. The new KLR's are great bikes for what they are, and if I could only have one M/C, the new KLR would likely be it. But, so as not to give the group the wrong idea, I'll counter the revs tale a bit by saying that the Connies were behaving and retaining their spacing behind the lead, as you're supposed to on a demo ride, and the guy on the Versys must have been afraid of it. I have an '08 Versys and an '09 KLR and the Versys could start in second gear and leave a KLR with no trouble. Had there been better choices in rubber for the Versys, I probably wouldn't have purchased the '09 KLR, since I also have an '06 KLR. The '09 is definitely an improvement on road over the '06, in many ways, and if I want to do any serious off-roading within a few hours of home, I'll use my '09 KLX250S. I have also considered owning the new Connie, but that's a lot of bike to keep clean, I don't have much time for touring at present and I'm really into basic and easy to maintain for now. I don't doubt the rev's tale a bit, but on another day, under different circumstances, it would have been the KLR playing catch-up. I know, such talk on the KLR list is heresy, but there it is. Yes, Dennis, No need to counter anything, particulary the obvious. (No intent to say, the KLR was faster--just the facts) The Connies were forced to behave. by design. by position. It is why I never bother to ride a super-bike at these demos. What did they learn? 1400cc, 600# at 45mph? yawn. oooh, aaaah, 45mph. gag. Sure, a Versys could ride in 2d gear all day and run circles around a KLR. smile. on dry, staight ground. however, let me pick the course.... Should they choose to 2d gear challenge me on my terrain, I will require a next of kin, ICE conctact. IRT to demo rides: It is also why I never ride a bike that is out of my budget/price range. It never creates an itch that I cannot scratch. and perhaps: A financial drain that takes all the enjoyment out of ownership. shrug. Nevertheless, You certainly have made my point without saying so: It is better to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow. On this day, I had the advantage of a 30K recent KLR smiles experience and the Versys guy, he had none (Versys experience). On this day, he rode a Versys, and observed a KLR demo. (my original point. smile.) For all I know, he now has a KLR rather than a Versys. By the way--nice stable of bikes! 2 KLR's a KLX250 and a Versys. You are truly blessed. revmaaatin.
