Page 157 of the Clymer manual discusses the concept of *snap ring* orientation when there is a rounded-edge side and a sharp-edge side, relative to transmission shafts. Don't know if master-link spring clips are typically finished to have sharp edges on both sides or not. http://books.google.com/books?id=4eQ5n-RONqEC&pg=PA157&lpg=PA157&dq=snap+ring+rounded+edge&source=bl&ots=YQvcjLH8bo&sig=lhzVUiUMNBJDR_Qu912om0hZfPo&hl=en&ei=9we9ScGkN4XGMq-foZkI&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=4&ct=result Alan

Steve, Safety wire it around the center to one side (and watch your fingers when you wipe the chain...). Ed

how can i keep from losing master chain link clips

I find this surprising. I got my first bike when I was 12. I am now 50. I have never lost a master link on anything. I know that the link should have the closed end going in the direction of travel, but I did not know about the sharp side facing out. I will take note from now on. Rick A17

Never thought to point that out, just kinda figured everybody knew that. Recap: Sharp edge outward Closed end in the direction of travel Give pins a push in with pliers to seat the clip tight Buy Extra Master Links and keep on bike (Handlebar pouch works nice) RTV I reckon can't hurt ( yet to ever do this however ) Did I miss anything ? I put my mounting instructions up on a web page for the Whitehorse press cans but it is generic enough for mounting others. I still need to add some more pictures, especialy of the drill guides and the clamping bits.. I will get to it soon. time to pack the camping gear back on it to get ready. It is warming up nicely http://www.ginsucity.com/klr650-mounting-luggage Chris
