I have a Honda Hawk GT that came stock with a rubber extension
thing on the sidestand that was intended to catch on the ground
and flip the stand up if you left it down. I always wondered if they actually
tested that thoroughly, or if some engineer just thought it was a good idea.
I know I wouldn't want to be the tester.

In my, uh, lessee, about 30 year riding career (gett'n old, dammit) I've known
two people (not me) who had a finger amputated by lubing the chain on the
centerstand, in gear, with the engine running. In fact, the second
person lost
a thumb the very morning after I explained to him the story of the first one,
as a cautionary tale. Eddie was not the sharpest knife...
